METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich has quit the band after their performance in Ludwigshafen, Germany Tuesday night (June , according to an online posting by METALLICA's webmaster Niclas Swanlund. "I know you are all worried about Lars," he writes. "The reports I have heard [Tuesday] morning is that things are good, but tonight will be his last show with the band here in Ludwigshafen, Germany. Lars feels too old to rock."
As previously reported, Ulrich was taken to hospital with an undisclosed illness just hours before METALLICA were due to headline the U.K.'s Download festival Sunday night (June 6). Rather than pull the show and risk a revolt from fans, METALLICA called SLIPKNOT's Joey Jordison, SLAYER's Dave Lombardo and longtime METALLICA drum tech Flemming Larsen to rescue the gig.
No shows will be cancelled, Joey Jordison from SLIPKNOT will play the missing dates of the tour. But he will definitely not join the band. Dave Holland (former JUDAS PRIEST) got the job, a spokesperson said in an unofficial statement on the unofficial website. No further information available so far.
